Meta, TikTok and Telegram launch large-scale fight against fakes and fraud in Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MDIAI RK) is actively increasing international cooperation to ensure cybersecurity and protect Kazakhstani citizens in the digital space. Recently, Minister Zhaslan Madiyev met with representatives of the US Chamber of Commerce and leading American technology companies, such as Meta and Apple. These meetings were a clear confirmation of the ministry's commitment to this course. During these talks, not only were general issues of digital security discussed, such as combatting fake accounts and protecting user data, but also specific mechanisms for implementing joint initiatives. Special attention was paid, for example, to the problem of spreading disinformation and countering cybercrime, including financial fraud and identity theft. Protecting Kazakh citizens from cyberattacks and fraudulent schemes is a complex task that requires an integrated approach.. This includes not only cooperation with international technology giants, but also active interaction with national and international law enforcement agencies, as well as improvement of the legislative framework. In this context, the requirement for internet platforms, including Telegram, WhatsApp, and TikTok, to have a representative office in Kazakhstan, is an important step toward establishing more effective control over distribution of illegal content and prompt response to violations. The agreement reached with Telegram regarding establishing a representative office and opening an office in the country represents a significant breakthrough in ensuring responsibility of the messenger for content posted on its platform. This will enable prompt identification and blocking of destructive channels distributing extremist, terrorist, and other illegal material.. Moreover, having a representative office facilitates interaction with Kazakhstan's law enforcement agencies in terms of cybercrime investigations. Cooperation with Telegram is just one aspect of the overall strategy, however. MCRIAP RK actively cooperates with other platforms such as Meta, which aims to jointly combat the spread of fraudulent schemes causing significant financial and emotional harm to Kazakhs. It is worth noting that Internet fraud is a global phenomenon, and Kazakhstan is not an exception. Success in fighting this phenomenon depends on effective international cooperation and the exchange of experience. In recent months, Meta has blocked over 1.2 billion fake accounts globally, using advanced AI technologies to detect and remove these accounts. AI plays a crucial role in identifying complex fraudulent schemes that constantly evolve.. In addition, Meta invests significant resources in the development and implementation of new technologies to improve the effectiveness of protecting users from fraudsters.
Further development of cooperation with Meta and other international partners involves the exchange of data on fraudulent schemes, the joint development of new tools for their detection and prevention, as well as raising the level of cyber literacy among the population. An important aspect is also improving cybersecurity legislation so that it meets modern challenges and provides a legal basis for effectively prosecuting cybercriminals. The ICRIAP RC plans to expand its cooperation with international organizations involved in the fight against cybercrime, such as INTERPOL and Europol, by exchanging information and jointly investigating international cybercriminal networks. Additionally, the MCRIA RK pays special attention to developing the national cybersecurity system, including improving the communications and information technology infrastructure.. This will strengthen the protection of critical infrastructures from cyber attacks and guarantee the security of state information resources. In the long term, the goal is to create a reliable and secure digital environment for all citizens of Kazakhstan, ensuring the protection of their rights and freedoms in the digital space. Therefore, the work of MCRIAP RK on strengthening international cooperation in cybersecurity is of exceptional importance for the future development of the country.
