Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov held a productive business meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Kazakhstan, Han Chunlin. The two sides discussed opportunities for expanding cooperation in trade, the economy, agriculture, transport, energy, culture, and tourism.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance for economic development of good relations between the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev and President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping. This was reflected in the volume of bilateral trade in 2024, which increased by 9% to 43.8 billion U.S. dollars.
To further increase total trade volume, the governments plan to expand cooperation and strengthen existing ties. Kazakhstan proposed to increase grain exports to China and expand the range of supplies.
The meeting also highlighted investment cooperation, where Beijing continues to demonstrate its reliability and interest in long-term partnerships with Kazakhstan. To date, 62 projects totaling USD 8.7 billion have been implemented with Chinese investment, creating 11,000 jobs. An additional 55 projects worth USD 13.5 billion are currently underway and are expected to generate 17,400 more jobs. The total investment volume stands at USD 60.5 billion.
The parties also discussed the development of transport and logistics. Cargo transportation between the countries increased by 13% and reached 29.3 million tons in 11 months of 2024. By the end of 2025, this amount may increase significantly, taking into account a number of promising, developing interstate projects.
Following the meeting, Olzhas Bektenov and Han Chunlong agreed to strengthen their partnership and work more actively in all areas.
